Organic Farming Scheme (OFS) open for application

The OFS is open for application from 1 September 2008 to 31 October 2008. The Scheme will grant aid farm businesses that convert some or all of their land from conventional to organic farming. Agreements will last for five years with a minimum eligible area of three ha for improved, semi-improved grassland, arable farmland and one ha for horticulture.

Payments will be higher in the first years of conversion, for example a total of £470/ha is available for improved and semi-improved grassland distributed over five years.
