Modern woodchip fuelled heating systems have been developed as an alternative to oil, LPG, coal or gas fired systems. Sustainable, locally grown woodchip is a source of heat energy which can contribute to farm income, reduce heating costs for energy users and reduce the carbon footprint.
The next in the series of SRC Willow Workshops organised by CAFRE will be held on the farm of Mr Tom Hegan, 29 Lurgy Road, Stewartstown, Dungannon, BT71 4DF on Monday 6 April at 2.00 pm.
The workshop will examine the establishment and management of a willow coppice plantation and look at the current methods of harvesting the crop. There will be an opportunity to see the two harvesting methods available in NI demonstrated.
The workshop is open to all who have an interest in willow production and if you are interested in attending, please contact Rebecca Coalter at CAFRE on 028 9442 6771, or rebecca.coalter@dardni.gov.uk to book a place

Tom and Mary Hegan from Stewartstown with Micky Gabbet, Kilkenny at the recent willow chipping workshop organised by CAFRE. A harvesting workshop will take place on the Hegan farm on Monday 6 April.
