Farmers Get Online

Farmers Get Online

23 January 2008
Jason McFerran
Greenmount Campus, CAFRE
“After coming on our course, farmers are reaping the benefits of saved time and reduced errors by registering their calf births through APHIS Online,” commented Martin Reel of RURAL ABODE. A group of farmers in the South Armagh area have been learning new skills at a recent computer course at Silverbridge Community Resource Centre. The classes were run by the RURAL ABODE project which is funded by the Newry and Mourne Local Action Group.  The farmers were introduced to the basics of IT and the Internet over six weeks.  Two weeks of the programme concentrated on APHIS Online, DARD’s internet cattle registration, movement and information system. This was delivered by Jason McFerran from Greenmount Campus, CAFRE.
CAFRE are running IT courses from January through April in venues across Northern Ireland including Armagh, Ballynahinch, Ballymoney, Fivemiletown, and Omagh, as well as at Greenmount and Loughry Campuses. For more information or to book a place on a course please contact Greenmount Campus on 028 9442 6819, enquiries@cafre.ac.uk or visit www.cafre.ac.uk/improving-it-skills.[external site] Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
