New cut foliage crops at Greenmount

David Kerr, Ornamental Crops Development Adviser, CAFRE

Greenmount Campus in partnership with the leading Dutch company, Kolster, are promoting the Cut Foliage Project at Greenmount Campus this autumn.
Kolster are from one of the main plant producing areas in Holland, specialising in developing crops suitable for growing as cut foliage. Cut foliage crops include plants such as rose hips, willows and hydrangea which are now widely used in the floristry market in flower bouquets and designs.
The aim of the Cut Foliage Project is to determine their commercial viability in Northern Ireland conditions. A number of local growers have already started to adopt some of the innovative crops being demonstrated at Greenmount.
