Sprayer workshop
Mark Scott, Greenmount Campus, College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise
The Downpatrick Cereals Challenge group recently enjoyed a
workshop delivered by Professor Paul Miller (The Arable Group, based in
Gloucestershire). Professor Miller has a wealth of knowledge on the subject of
optimising the output from crop sprayers.
Growers in the group investigated how they can get the most
from their sprayer throughout the season and the series of adjustments which
must be made depending on conditions. Timely and correct applications can reduce
input costs of chemicals and have the added benefit of increasing yields.
This session was the 7th of the current
Downpatrick Cereals Challenge which began in November 2005 and provides growers,
in a practical way, with an opportunity to improve their expertise in all
aspects of cereal production.

John Gill, Ian Dickson, Kenneth Annett, Peter Annett, Gorden Annett, Kenny Martin and Uel Watson discuss nozzle selection with professor Paul Miller (The Arable Group) and Malachy Mason (CAFRE).
