New Vision for Dairy Farming
CAFRE staff have been involved in helping to organise the panel of speakers for this years` Teagasc National Dairy Conference
This is the first time this has occurred and the organisers hope that the Conference will be of real interest to Northern Ireland dairy farmers.
The Teagasc National Dairy Conference 2006 takes place on 16 November in the Slieve Russell Hotel, Ballyconnell, Co Cavan. The theme of the conference this year is “New Vision for the Irish Dairy Industry”.
A range of national and international speakers will outline their vision for the dairy industry. Many of the papers presented will be very relevant to Northern Ireland dairy farmers.
Of particular note will be the talk by Dr John Penno, Executive Chairman of Synlait in New Zealand. He will provide an insight into the operation of the New Zealand milk supply chain from on-farm production through to processing and marketing of dairy products.
There is also a strong Northern Ireland presence at the Conference. Dr Sinclair Mayne from the Agri-food and Bio-sciences Institutes at Hillsborough will look at the challenges facing researchers to ensure milk production remains competitive.
Dairy farmer Ian Marshall from Co Armagh will address the conference on the developments which occurred on his farm to improve business performance and his vision for dairy farming in the future.
Ian McCluggage, Greenmount CAFRE will chair one of the sessions on cost effective expansion of milk production.
Dairy farmers should take the opportunity provided by the Conference to update themselves on key aspects of securing a future within the industry. The cost of the Conference is 60 euro and to obtain a booking form contact Anne Gallogly, Teagasc, Telephone 00353 71 9620028 or e-mail: a.gallogly@leitrim.teagasc.ie.
