Introduction

Farmers' organisations and milk purchasers are fully committed to quality and excellence and have jointly agreed to adopt this code of practice for dairy farms.
The code is based on good farming methods and sets out standards expected of farmers with regard to animal welfare, on-farm traceability and product safety.
Legislation and contractual arrangements between milk producers and their milk purchaser regulate and promote milk quality standards.
There are now many UK and EU regulations and directives covering milk quality and animal health and welfare. Dairy farmers must keep themselves up-to-date on current and emerging issues within the industry.
The responsibility for milk quality and animal welfare rests with you the dairy farmer.

The Northern Ireland Animal Welfare and Quality Assurance Code of Practice was produced and is supported by the following organisations:

- The Department of Agriculture, Northern Ireland
- The Ulster Farmers' Union
- The Northern Ireland Agricultural Producers Association
- United Dairy Farmers Limited
- The Northern Ireland Dairy Association

together with:
