Why rapid wilt
Reduce losses
When wilting it is important that grass does not remain in the field for long periods. Losses during the wilting process are mainly due to plant respiration and teaching of nutrients by rain. These losses are highly dependent on the weather and the duration of the wilting period. Techniques which produce a rapid wilt have the potential to minimise both respiration and the risk of exposure to adverse weather and hence ensure a high quality ensiled product.
