Hygiene

On rare occasions chickens can sometimes carry germs which might be harmful to children. These germs are killed when the chickens or eggs are cooked.
Incubation conditions ideal for the growth of embryos are also ideal for bacterial growth. The objective of hygiene arrangements is to keep both us and the chicks healthy. Do:
  • Use only naturally clean eggs if possible. (If eggs have to be cleaned, wash them quickly in water at approximately 50 degrees with a small amount of mild disinfectant).
  • Wash and disinfect the incubator before and after use.

PERSONAL HYGIENE

Please:
  1. Do not allow children to 'lick' or put the chicks around their faces.
  2. Ensure that any cuts on their hands are covered with a WATERPROOF dressing before being allowed to handle the chicks.
  3. After handling the chicks (or eggs) please ensure that everyone washes their hands thoroughly using hot running water and soap.
These rules apply when handling any animals or birds - even at home!
