Tour - 2nd stage accommodation

Second stage house.
  • Pigs enter the second stage house at 18 kg
  • Each weeks pigs are housed in a separate room allowing for all in-all out
  • The rooms are serviced by a common access passage
Viewing window in door.
  • Pigs can be viewed through a window in the door of each room
  • Ventilation, temperature and lighting can be adjusted from the main access passage
Room divided off.
  • Each room is subdivided into 4 pens
  • The pigs remain in the second stage house up to 35 kg
  • Fully slatted plastic floors ensure pig comfort and cleanliness
Roof mounted fan.
  • Stale air is extracted via a roof mounted fan
  • Air is drawn into the room through perforations in the ceiling
Delta bars
  • Incoming air is heated by "Delta Bars"
  • These contain water which is heated by oil
Pigs in room.
  • Both heating and ventilation are computer controlled
  • The room environment is automatically adjusted depending on external temperature and pig size
  • The lying pattern of the pigs shows an ideal environment is being achieved
Feeding system.
  • Pigs are fed pellets ad-lib
  • The "Maxi-Mat" feeders are positioned in the divisions between two pens of pigs
  • There are 30 pigs/feeder
  • In addition to water nipples in the feeders, drinking bowls are also provided
