Dressage
Dressage is the term used to describe the complete training of the horse when ridden on the flat. It is the foundation of training for most of the disciplines. It's origin lies in various movements, which were taught to the horses used in war, to enable them to evade a hostile at close quarters.
Training at basic dressage level helps to develop and obedient and responsive horse, which can then be trained for any of the disciplines, i.e., Show Jumping. At the most advanced level of dressage the horse will require years of training to reach Grand Prix level.
