Business Challenge for Cattle & Sheep Farmers

There are wide differences in financial performance on farms within the cattle & sheep sector. For example, benchmarking results indicate that the bottom 10 percent of suckler farmers are only generating 10 percent of the net margin per hectare of the top 10 percent. This shows that there is scope to make more money.

What is involved?

The four topics are covered in this Challenge are:
  • Benchmarking;
  • Improving labour use;
  • Making better decisions;
  • Action planning.
Local group meetings will help you learn from others whilst also receiving support from your local Beef & Sheep Development Adviser. There will be best practice visits to demonstrate how you can make improvements on your farm. On completion, there is an opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification.
