The Conservation (Natural Habitats, etc) Regulations (N.I.) 1995

The Department of the Environment designates Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) and Special Protection Areas (SPAs) in accordance with these Regulations. Under this legislation it is an offence to carry out any operation likely to damage a SAC or SPA without prior permission from the Environment and Heritage Service(EHS).
The maximum penalty for non-compliance is £5000 and an offender may be liable for the costs of restoring the damaged area to its original condition. Enforcement is by EHS.
