Chemical stores
You should have a chemical store that complies to regulations. The minimum requirements are:
- The structure must be robust enough to withstand any reasonably foreseen accidental impact.
- It should be designed to retain any leakage up to 110% of the total volume of liquid held in the store.
- It should be lockable.
- It should be able to resist flames for 30 minutes.
- It should protect chemicals from freezing.
- The contents must be easily accessible to user.
- All stores must be clearly marked with an appropriate sign (black triangle with a yellow background and an exclamation mark). This can be of any size provided it is clearly visible).
Where only small quantities of chemicals are being stored an old chest freezer (provided it is lockable) will fulfil these requirements. Alternatively bins or vaults specifically made for storing chemicals can be purchased from a number of outlets.
