The green is similar to the <no link text>USGA green but no soil is added to the sand. This means the green has a lower nutrient holding capacity and consequently requires more fertiliser applied more frequently over the season. In excess of 250 units of N are applied over the growing season. Low levels are applied in September to avoid the soft grass growth that allows Fusarium disease (Michrochodium nivale) to attack the sward. A feature of this green are the deeep pot bunkers which retain sand in windy seaside conditions as well as punishing golfers.

Maintenance

Cutting

November to March will be as grass growth and weather conditions. Cutting height will be 7mm. Cutting April to October, a total of 140 cuts at 5mm.

Grooming

November to March as per grass growth and weather conditions. Grooming from April to October a total of 14 operations.

Surface slitting

A total of 24 operations

Deep Slitting

November to March a total of 10 times

Dew removal

Every day as per weather conditions

Top Dressing

April to October a total of 7 applications of 1 kg per m2

Fertilsers

May to September a complete dressing applied in mid May or a dressing of Supaturf SS-D and one last dressing of Supaturf SanIron in September
