Benchmarking
Benchmarking allows you to enter financial information for your farm and compare your total costs of production with other similar farms. Other enterprises will be added to the system in due course which will allow you to benchmark your entire farm against the "best-in-class". Benchmarking will highlight the strengths and weaknesses in your business. Improving performance in weak areas will allow your business to become more competitive in an ever changing economic environment.
Greenmount Campus has benchmarking projects in progress for all major farm enterprises in Northern Ireland. Farmers supply figures in a standard input sheet. These are entered into a computer program which calculates the costs of production per unit. A report is generated that compares their results to the group average. This allows planning for improvements to be made to the business performance. If you would like to become involved in the project, contact your local Beef and sheep developemnt adviser or dairy development adviser.

Campus farm results
When analysing the performance of an enterprise on your farm, it is important to have results from other farms to compare against. Results from Greenmount Campus show the performance levels that can be achieved across a range of enterprises.
